Theme Update Issues

Hi,

I have a previous version of Theme Installed on my Website.

I want to update Theme to the latest version.

I had downloaded the theme from Themeforest But I have few questions before updating the theme.

1) I have made few changes in Theme files, does that hurts me when I installed the new Version? Or is there a way to not hurt those files?
2) Few Changes were done by the support team of the theme(Durk Theme Support), Are these changes remain the same after updating the theme?
3) Theme have 2 things. 1 main theme and 2nd Child Theme. Do i have to Update both theme(Child + Main)?
4) What is the best and 2nd best method to update the theme to the latest Version? (Please suggest both methods)
